Facing the Divide: Shavuot and Pentecost

Pentecost is a little-known holiday in many Christian denominations.  Its connection to the founding of the church from the Book of Acts is well-known but in fact, Pentecost is rooted in the Hebrew Scriptures.  It is a holiday, known in Hebrew as Shavuot, that is celebrated faithfully by the Jewish people since Biblical times.

Sondra Oster Baras, an Orthodox Jew who has devoted her life to reaching out to Christians all over the world to bless Israel, shares the meaning of Shavuot with her Christian friends, even as  Kimberly Troup, Christian Zionist director of CFOIC Heartland’s US office, and Tommy Waller, Christian Zionist director of HaYovel, share their understanding of Pentecost.  And as the discussion progresses, each one discovers something about these two different holidays that reflect on the other.  A particularly engaging conversation!
