Een paar weken geleden ontdekte de IDF een tunnel van bijna twee kilometer lang en 18 meter onder de oppervlakte van de Gazastrook naar Israel. Het was gebouwd met zo’n 25.000 platen beton. En dit is de derde tunnel van zijn soort die dit jaar gevonden is. Deze tunnel was gemaakt voor een terroristische aanval tegen Israel.

Een paar jaar geleden, voeren Moslimterroristen, gesteund door Turkije naar Gaza op de Mavi Marmara. Hun doel was om de Israelische blokkade rond Gaza te breken en om de aandacht van de wereld te vragen voor wat zij noemden de vreselijke en benarde situatie van de Arabieren in Gaza. Hun woordvoerders spraken over het gebrek aan voedsel en de noodzakelijke basisbehoeften in Gaza omdat Israel maar niet toestond dat deze dingen de grens overgingen. Israel ontkende onmiddellijk deze belachelijke beschuldigingen en verzekerde iedereen die maar wilde luisteren dat Israel elke week tonnen voedsel en andere producten toeliet naar Gaza. De media lieten foto´s zien van Arabische markten in Gaza met een groot assortiment aan verse vruchten en groenten.

Israel benadrukte echter dat het zou doorgaan met het beperken van de doorvoer van niet noodzakelijke goederen en in het bijzonder die zaken die gebruikt zouden kunnen worden voor een terroristische infrastructuur tegen Israel. Kortgeleden nam de internationale druk op Israel toe om cement toe te laten in Gaza om het de bewoners van Gaza mogelijk te maken om huizen te bouwen en ziekenhuizen en andere noodzakelijke gebouwen. Nog maar een paar maanden geleden gaf Israel toe en gaf zij toestemming voor 550 vrachtwagens met cement elke week.

Er is dus genoeg cement in Gaza. Maar het cement wordt niet gebruikt voor huizen en hospitalen maar voor tunnels om Israel aan te vallen.

Israel en de Palestijnen zijn bezig met geheime onderhandelingen gesteund door de Amerikanen. Maar wie is onze partner in onze zoektocht naar vrede? De cynische manipulatie van de waarheid is al zo lang een kenmerk van de Arabische propaganda tegen Israel. Kunnen ze vertrouwd worden in het bewaren van een vredesovereenkomst?

Als ik deze brief schrijf, zie ik door mijn raam de zon schijnen over de prachtige heuvels van Samaria. Dat is de realiteit, dat is de waarheid. Het volk Israel zijn thuis gekomen in Sion van de vier windstreken van de aarde en we staan niemand toe ons uit onze huizen te verdrijven. Steun ons als we dapper en ferm in dit land leven.
