About Havat Gilad

In 2002, at an open area just south of Kedumim, two families pitched tents, planting the first seeds of “Havat Gilad,” a new community in central Samaria. Havat Gilad was founded as part of a greater effort to honor and preserve the legacy of Gilad Zar, a security officer for the Samaria Regional Council and a founder of the community of Itamar, who was murdered in a terror attack the previous year. The community’s homes and infrastructure remain largely underdeveloped, and the pioneers of Havat Gilad face a constant deluge of security threats from nearby Arab villages. Nevertheless, many pioneering families carrying the same relentless spirit as Havat Gilad’s founders have moved in, making the community the much larger and prosperous community that it is today.
