About Gitit
Gitit, an agricultural oasis on the edges of the Jordan Valley, was founded just five years after the People of Israel liberated Judea and Samaria in 1967. Located on the eastern slopes of the Samarian hills and not far from the Biblical city of Gilgal, the establishment of Gitit was no easy task for the community’s original pioneers. The land was largely barren with hot, sweltering summers. Yet, Gitit’s founders accomplished the impossible! Planting vineyards, date trees and crops, they developed a prosperous agriculture that continues to thrive. During the Second Intifada, as security threats spiked throughout the Biblical Heartland, Gitit experienced a most troubling and sharp decline in population that threatened to bring the community to the point of collapse. Yet, the pioneers refused to give in. To guarantee and preserve its future, Gitit invited and welcomed in many religiously devout families, transforming the community into a newly cohesive band of residents living together with mutual respect and devotion to the Biblical Heartland.
